Your job is to answer this basic, general question for each scene:
"What does Holden do here? How does his interpretation of what he's doing differ from the way others, including us, might see it? How does this turn out for him?"
WTF: We're looking at him a bit like psychologists: we're noticing his behavior, and how he might be making the choices he is. We're especially intersted in whether he LEARNS from his mistakes, or whether his reactions to what he does might be leading him into more trouble.
INSTRUCTIONS:
USE THE FOLLOWING TEMPLATE/SCRIPT/"THINKING MAP" to analyze his bhavior and reactions.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTICE THAT WE'RE NOT "DIAGNOSING" HIM WITH ANY SPECIFIC DISORDER, OR EVEN "DEFENSE MECHANISM": WE'RE JUST LOOKING AT HOW AND WHY HE'S DOING WHAT HE'S DOING!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
script: (PASTE THIS 3X, THEN FILL IN ALL THE BLANKS to make a smooth, completely explained paragraph):
When Holden______________, He thinks he wants to _____(include quote).
(Un)fortunately for him, he finds that this may be difficult because _____ ?(include CD)
Because of this, he tries to _____________________?
When he ends up ________________________?, however,
this result is a problem in that____________.(explain)
this result is a problem in that____________.(explain)
Holden, however, only thinks that he ______(include quote)
His reaction is (good/a problem ) for him because___________________(explain).

Remember that I'm asking you to be really thoughtful and thorough with these; that's why I reduced it from 5 scripts to three. Make sure you do a careful reading, however, to pick your three events. Expect a possible quiz on quotes form Ch. 1-14 on Monday to check your reading.
