AP12 rundown for big weekend Gatsby project

For next week, you'll need 3 things:
1. 25 total DE show and tells from ch's 3,4,5 of GG; these can be short, keep them to the point, but make sure to show that you've read for the most interesting details of all three chapters. This should be an easy 10-pointer that replaces the need for a reading quiz.

2. A detailed set of 15 DE Show-->tell notes on your short, assigned section of ch's 3, 4, or 5. If you were absent, call ASAP or see me Fri. Morning to get an assigned section. You will show me this, along with a copy of:
3. A written, "essay" in which you turn your DE Show-->Tells into complete sentences with explanation, in the formal style. This will be as short as 15, as long as 30, sentences. You will get participation credit when you read 15-quote-based section analysis to the class.

In class, next week, we'll hold a seminar, in which you'll read your analysis for credit, show me your DE content, and we'll all take notes on what you share as we all practice "show-->tell" out loud, in notes, in writing, while listening, and in asking questions, together.

Remember that your goal is try to identify what you think are the most important aspects of your section (most have many more than 15 details to choose from). Consider character, theme, symbolism, irony, foreshadowing, etc. You're basically answering the questions: "what happens in my section?" and "what does it contribute to the story as a whole?"
(Note: go ahead and use your general answer to these two questions to create a brief opening to help us as your listeners when you read:
"In ch. ? of The Great Gatsby, Nick attends...where he..."
"This section shows both the...and the way that ..." etc.
