See the funny "case against analysis" witticism I shared with you in class here: The Case against analysis: I’m not really a big fan of analysis: when we look really closely at how artists seem to do what they do, it seems like we really actually have no idea what they intended. If that’s true, doesn’t this mean that trying to figure out how they’re doing it is a hugely unimportant activity? After all, given that we don’t know what they intended means we can only guess about what we think we’re seeing. This would mean that analysis is really just a fancy way of describing what we’re seeing, and what we’re reading, which is just what we’re doing anyway.
