The Vocabulary assignment was so successful, giving you such valuable practice in general writing, vocabulary, and grammar, that I am proud to offer another opportunity for a similar assignment, due Wednesday, May 5.
9th graders will turn this in Monday, Tuesday 5/10-11.
For this assignment, your word list will contain citations (not quotes) and brief definitions only; Your story will again follow the same format from our last assignment (all 40 words, none random, using correct word forms, 2/sentence maximum);
however, on this draft, the story must meet a few additional requirements:
-It must be prose, not poetry.
-You must connect and combine sentences to avoid chop.
-It must be neatly HAND-WRITTEN
You will be "marked down" for :
-spelling and mechanical errors
-sentence fragments or run- ons.
-significant punctuation errors of commas or apostrophes.
-misuse of any words on our usage list
-misuse of paragraph divisions/(or failure to divide paragraphs), including mis-punctuation of dialogue and quotations
Your grade is thus based on whether you meet the basic objectives of
1. Using new vocabulary correctly;
2. Writing with enough sentence fluency and variety to avoid "chop";
3. Observing the conventions af basic English grammar, mechanics, and punctuation.
