The following is a brief summary:  the actual, specific prompts and assignments will be posted the first week of summer break.

Preview of Written Assignments:

Honors 10
Read the two guides: (these are links)

  • Passive, weak, and wordy sentences
  • Sentence combining
For the "Passive, weak, and wordy sentences," by July 15, complete the exercise, (It will involve composing sentences that demonstrate the errors, then rewriting the sentences free of the errors,) then paste your response as a comment to the assignment post itself.

For the Sentence combining exercise, you'll be explaining each rule in your own words, then creating combined sentences using each technique, and posting your response to the blog.  (due 8/1)

To post, you can post with your own user id, using any username you wish followed by your student ID number.

AP11:

The AP11 class targets elements of writing prose non-fiction, especially essays.  To build reading, analysis, and writing skills, incoming AP11 students will be researching articles published in print or online that actually argue opinions on contemporary issues of importance.  As this skill ties directly to the work students will be doing in conjunction with AP US History, students are encouraged to find essays that deal with topics related to politics, history, or cultural controversies relevant to current news, finding these and choosing among those you have researched for those you find most interesting to summarize and share with your classmates.  Full guidelines, requirements, and models will be posted here during the first week of summer break, with the summaries to be posted here as comments, with the first due by 7/15, the second by 8/1, and the third by 8/15.

Enjoy your summer; we'll be seeing your work soon!
