This should be of particular interest to my college-bound seniors; for those of you new to my class, I'll often post things to my blog that appear in the culture out there. On these posts, please feel free to post your comments and we'll create a forum here for lively debate and reaction.

How effective is this test that they are using? Maybe the problem lies there. I mean, I feel like this ties into the other ongoing discussion about the pitfalls of evaluating students' success based on standarized tests.

Also, I'd like to mention that the comments on the article are just as interesting as the article.

Well, I have no idea about the study habits of students but I would agree that the rigorous reading and writing programs would have a large tie-in with CLA scores. I mean, just look at those of us that are taking Polhman's class for the first time and the differences in our work and rigor from just one semester.(even if it isn't up to scratch haha)

As for the newspaper thing, I think that's a change in society today. Despite having the elite academic training, young people don't become leading members of society till well into their thirties these days. I'm sure that once they've "inherited" the earth, they will take a more active role on the world stage rather then focus on their personal success, the success that young people are conditioned to pursue as those in power would prefer to go unchallenged by the younger generation. There, said my piece
