AP12 Updates (Essay Wed., DEs Fri!+ Final OBJECTIVES)

Attention Seniors:
by popular demand, I'm stepping into the fray to settle once and for all a logical set of deadlines before you all successfully confuse one another. TO WIT:

Wednesday (4,5,6 schedule):
Turn in Final, Mid-term take-home exam/Gatsby essay. There will be no redos on this essay, as you are being graded on your final revisions, based on our goals so far:

(These are you OBJECTIVES, based on all the stuff we talked about):
  • include 15 interpreted details from your short passage of the GG, answering the question: "What does this section as a whole, and these key details, contribute to the book"
  • Identify releveant and meaningful interpretations, making logical, critical choices about whether your details reveal information about the characters, plot, themes, or symbolism and other devices, of the book as a whole.
  • Logically divide the paper into 3-5 body paragraphs based on the content of your section
  • introduce each paragraph with a topic sentence that matches the content
  • introduce the paper with a clear introduction demonstrating all "3 steps of an introduction"
  • show conscientious revisions to fix major style errors, especially passive and wordy sentences, choppy sentences and redundant, mechanical sentence style, Vague and empty phrases, and self-conscious references.
  • Create flow by including appropriate transitions throughout, both in topic sentences, and with each new detail in body paragraphs. (remember to vary transition placement!)(see how much we've learned already this year?!) ;)

ALSO BRING TO CLASS your notebook list of 20-30 words, with page numbers only; you DON'T need definitions or other stuff yet.

I'm extending the FINAL "In-class DEs" to Friday; let's focus on the Essays. We'll include all the stuff from tomorrow's wrap-up discussion in the DEs to turn in then.

PAX, P
